Hitting the Trails

Here we are at Saddle Camp deep in the Bitterroot Mountains, in Northern Idaho.  This is Tony, owner, guide, outfitter, (he wears many hats), getting our horses saddled up. 

                          

We rode in many different areas from the 5400 ft. level up to the 6000 ft. level.  “The Triple O’s guide area includes the most rugged and still unchanged portion of the historic Lewis and Clark Trail, some of which follows the ancient Native American route designated as the Nez Perce Trail.”

This is Smoking Place, a lofty place described in the Lewis and Clark journal, where The Nez Perce  came to pray and smoke.

  

Enjoying the view, is one mother/daughter team, left; Linda, right; Jess and in the background is our coordinator, Juli.  There were two mother/daughter teams, making a total of eight of us. 

 

We were riding on the edge of these mountains coming up and I did a lot of praying on the narrow, rocky paths but my Charlie, my mule was a champ!

 

When we arrived back in camp, Juli had made a makeshift spa for us…it felt wonderful! On the left is Alexis, and client, Jess.

 

Linda thought the stream water was too cold. (We all agreed.)

 

 

This is where I slept…in an old fashioned wall tent.

We rode to Cayuse River and stopped for lunch, one day.  It was stunning.

 

 

 

I caught Grace in a reflecting mood on the river, cooling her toes. 

I just went to post this and Grace sent me this picture….be it know I am a little afraid of horses….but she caught me giving some love to Charlie.
