The girls are getting out a lot more lately and they are loving it. There is an owl in the neighborhood and I always stay home while the girls are out. I went out to check on them after they were in the coop last night and sure enough the owl was on the nearest telephone pole, making a screeching noise. I have heard this before but couldn’t figure out what it was….I thought they only hooted. Anyone know anything about this?
I don't know anything about it, Karen. How odd though. Have a great day with your "chicks". xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't help with the screeching. I do know that they hoot as there is one in my area every now & then. I haven't seen any of them get anything but that doesn't mean that they don't. The ladies are looking adorable. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of owls here too. We had that was living in the big tree in front, and at night we would hear it hoot....all night long. In the morning, there was often drips of blood on and around the tree and ground below, where it must have eaten dinner. I worry more about hawks with my hens. But so far, only coyotes have been the problem for us.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe having such a treed lot, gives them more cover. I am only getting 4-6 eggs a day. Sometimes only 2! Eeek...what a switch, after getting a dozen a day for so long!!!
Hugs my friend.
Kris
No I don't know, Karen, but I love your photo of your girls!
ReplyDeleteI'm still hoping someday to have my own...
Your girls look so sweet. Don't know about that owl. I asked the hubs too, (a country boy), and he didn't know either.
ReplyDeleteScreech Owl, really! This is a very small owl, but it makes a horrible sound. I have them land on fence posts and do the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI did check that out on the internet but this owl was way too big to be a Screech Owl and the sound the little one makes isn't even close. Maybe owls make this kind of noise when they are stressed or think they see a big meal, ie, a chicken...ha!
