A Bump in the Road

Good morning to you all.  Sorry, I have not posted for so long but I just got out of the hospital on Monday night, that’s me above in my P J’s.  Like the hospital garb looks that good!

I did have a stroke but it was a very minor one.  I spent two days at the hospital while they tried to find out what happened and the source.  It was the MIR that found the tiny stroke in my brain and the CAT scan with the dye said the arteries were doing fine now.   The ultrasound of my heart was good too.

I will have to be on a heart monitor for a month to see if my heart rhythms are the cause.  The ultrasound of my heart was good…no holes etc.  I have no physical after affects like numbness, loss of vision, hearing, I am just a bit tired and have a neck head ache that returned when I got home.

I will be seeing a specialist for my thyroid (which has always been off…a constant struggle) and a heart specialist.  My own doctor who is to coordinate all this is sick this week so the ball is rolling slowly.  I will be learning more soon, I hope.

So for now I am not allowed to go camping anywhere where there are no medical services so that means going to White Bird to visit my trailer is out of the question….just what I need to do…darn.  Once the heart monitor is off, I will find out more and should be able to travel.

I was a bad girl and didn’t go into the emergency room until the next day.  My episode was on Saturday night and I just felt numbness starting up my right leg and then as it moved up my body I decided to get on the floor.  I was there only a short time and got to a chair and was still shaky and had a headache in the back of my neck.  I just felt more tired in the morning so I called my doctor.  He suggested I got into Sacred Heart (a fantastic worldwide reputation for a great Heart hospital) and I got wonderful help there.  Everyone of my doctors and caregivers were fantastic.  I learned that they can pin point the area of the stroke if you get to the hospital in 3 hours….no more driving myself….the next day!

I feel humble and blessed to be alive.

  7. Karen- I am so sorry and that is so so scary. If you get help quickly you can avoid severe damage even with a more massive stroke. Just plain scary, isn't it? The older we get the scarier these things get that happen to us. Praying for you. BE A GOOD GIRL and do just what they tell you to do! I am not even going to scold you for not getting help right away- I am sure you have scolded yourself enough. Take good care- xo Diana

  8. You bet I have. I will start caring more for myself by letting others help me first. Lesson learned.

I'm glad it was minor and that other parts of you are OK! Heal quickly, recover fully, and hope all goes well.
