I thought I would share a few of the favorite posts from 2011.....

I am still plugging away at my back porch, so today’s Tuesday tip is how to make a coat hanger, rack, thingie….lol
I started with an old piece of driftwood I found on the banks of the Spokane River (Washington) last fall. Reminds me of a whale. See his little eye right in front of the knot hole. ;)
I wanted to use old door knobs for my hangers/hooks. I had several different ones and in order to attach them, I was able to find some bolts that would fit the handles. This was not an easy task as each handle was different. It was a lot of time, spent in the hardware nut and bolt isle. Drill holes evenly spaced for each bolt, and (on the other side) I wanted a nice finish so I placed the plate cover (?) down over the bolt and screwed on the knob. Since I had four different ones, I varied the colors and styles.
I spray painted the plate covers in black so I would have a uniform look, as many were gold. I left the wood plain, sanded by the Spokane River. You could spray a clear coat of varnish on it, if you like.
The hardest part of this project was finding a way to attach these knobs, in many cases, these old knobs have a set screw in the side, that you can tighten. When you are unable to find a bolt to match the threads on the knob, this set screw is invaluable. These original sizes are no longer available, so if you start with a handle that has a set screw, you are much better off. You could use epoxy but I am all about reusing and repurposing, so I didn’t want to do that. You will find ideas for doing these knobs all over the internet, I am sure.
