RIP

                 v @chicks 017 (600x800)

My sweet Rosa Parks died today.  She was one year and seventeen days old.  She was a great pleasure to me.  I will miss her dearly.

Here she is last summer at my Roundup of vintage trailers at my home.

I tried to help Rosa by soaking her in warm water and wrapping her in a towel….Dash tried to be supportive.  Rosa seemed much better yesterday but that’s how it seems to go just before it gets much worse.  Apparently, she was egg bound.  She will be sorely missed.

  1. I had never heard of that, Karen. I googled it and was shocked to read what it was. I'm sorry that your beautiful hen died and I'm sure you will miss her. They are creatures that you can get quite attached to when you raise them. Deb

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about Rosa Parks. The picture of them when they were so little is just adorable. Our pets are so precious and special to us and also to the other animals. She will surely be missed.

  10. Karen,

I am so sorry for your loss!!! Poor Rosa. You were the best chicken mama a gal could have, though!

  11. Poor Rosa- and poor you. I'm sure you were a good mother/nurse to her. Losing a pet is soooo hard...

  12. NO!! I was reading your blog and notice you had another gal and started to search to find the reason. I had no idea and feel so sorry. This is quite a shock, I am so very sorry. Truly!

  13. I know the hurt in losing a companion...and I love that you named her Rosa Parks.

I had a beautiful, sweet Parakeet (Minnie Mouse) who was with me all the time, would sleep tucked under my hair when I was sitting, came when I whistled for her, and kissed and talked to me. I had to have my little girl put to sleep when she, too, was egg bound. I do have two of her old eggs nestled in a tiny bird's nest on the mantle in my bedroom.

No matter the size of what we lose, that pain is enormous... I share your sadness.
