Finally!

v 008

I have tended, fussed, and worried this orchid near to death.  She bloomed the first year and then quit for the next three.  I gave her one more chance or she was going out the door.  And this is what I got!

I have been very fortunate to have my orchids bloom, as often as twice a year and believe me, it has nothing to do with my knowledge. But this one was very stubborn.

v 012

Somewhere along the line, I heard that it was best to have them in two pots, the second being very close to the first.  I was so desperate for this one to bloom again, that I added the second pot and waited a whole year!  And at last, I was rewarded!  These blooms are over four inches across and will last for months, arriving at just the right time of year!

And for those of you who have a Trader Joes near by….that’s been a great source of Orchids for me.  The are inexpensive and in wonderful condition.  Give one a try…..add some ‘green’ to your home!

  3. thanx for the tip about the double potting....
I have seperated my orchaids into different pots(the babies) but the last time they (adults) bloomed was when we moved up here....I have moved them to different locations in the house, new orchaid potting mix, & still nada...now I am thinking the pots just are not staying warm enough or my California Orchaids are home sick! lol!

  4. I love orchids. One of my cat-sitting clients is very much into growing the beauties and through her I started with a few in my home. Your photos are lovely. You must be doing something right.

Mines in a double pot..... not because of my knowledge, but that's the way she came to me.....interesting information, I'll keep her in the double pot.

  6. Hi, What gorgeous orchids. I guess all good things are worth waiting for. I wonder why they do better next to each other but not in the same pot? I had no idea the blooms lasted so long. Great photos.
