What Do You Know….

                   chix 002

Some of you have met Maya Angelou before but I want to introduce her him to you, again.  Meet Michelangelo!  Yes, Michelangelo.  I was working on the computer yesterday and thought I might have heard a rooster.  Albeit, a fairly weak call but definitely, the real thing!  I truly thought she was a he all along but kept being convinced by others, she was just stressed.  I mean, this seems a bit late, he will be a year old on Christmas day!

I am not sure I will ever see any little ones from him…as he is the most docile rooster.  He does like to guard the girls but they love to beat up on him all the time…….time will tell.  Man up, Michelangelo!

Not that way!

Check out this party…..

  1. So funny. No wonder the hens didn't accept him!

  2. Yeah, go figure! And maybe all those fights are not them after him....

  3. Oh yes...he certainly is!! He is stunning looking too! I hope you get babies!!!!! So exciting!!!
Loved your previous post too, about Miss Daisy! Just now catching up. You have done a fabulous job on her!!

  4. How funny! It seem every time I have got chicks I always get a rooster. Beings I live in town they go to new homes. This spring I'm thinking two chicks, so keeping my fingers crossed for hens.

    Love his name!!!!

  5. geesch Karen... give me a little warning next time... I spewed caffee, laughing so hard! lolololol! Now to go wipe up my chin of the coffee dribbles! lol!
    p.s. that 'purse' is now @ $16.00!.

  6. He's a mighty good looking rooster. Bless his heart, being called a girl for a year.
I love your pictures, especially the last one..... gave me a chuckle!

  7. That is pretty funny. Well now we know, I think. Sure is a pretty Bird boy or girl.

  8. Ha Ha Ha! That is truly a good one. One will never know unless a hen wants to set. Thanks for sharing.

  9. You really have me laughing here:-) What a fun surprise.

  10. Oh Karen I cant help but giggle. I've been surprised with what I thought was a hen before too. But almost a year old? He's really a closet queen. Lol . If he does man up; little ones are so fun. Keep us posted.

  11. Some hens do crow, though your guy looks to have the saddle feathers.

I adopted a buff orpington that had taken on the role of rooster at her old house, jumping other hens.

She then started crowing 3 months after getting to my place. She has HUGE wattles and comb. She was born with more than her fair share of testosterone for sure.

    Good luck with your fella

  12. Hahhaah! I love it!! Welcome to the club, friend!!!

  13. You did suspect he was a she for some time, now you know. Maybe that was why the girls from day one did like her/him. They were trying to tell you something.
He is stunning and has come along way from when he first came to you.

  14. I had the same thing happen! I almost jumped out of my skin when Liberty (born on the 4th of July) started crowing last week. All the other barnyard animals, who had never heard a rooster, were startled too!

    Beautiful man you've got there!

  15. Haha so funny! We had a pullet that ended up being a rooster as well. His name was Fiona but now he has a much less creative name - Roosty Roo. Michelangelo is a cutie :)
