Chicken Mansion Progress

                  yard and coop 026

As some of you know, I had the Chicken Mansion moved in this Spring and fixed up an area for Eleanor, Rosa and Amelia.  It’s been crazy hectic around here ever since the weather got better (it’s better, really?) and because of that, I am just now getting some time to finish off the rest of the shed…..for me.

Amelia wants to show you how much she loves her new digs…I think she is showing off a bit…notice the slight pirouette?

I love pulling up this chair to watch my girls.

I really haven’t had the room to decorate yet.  I got the rest of the entire shed insulated yesterday (in 85 degree weather!).  And then believe it or not….I painted the insulation..white.  It made it so much lighter in the Mansion, I know my girls will bring on the eggs now!!!

yard and coop 017  See that back wall?  One coat of primer, put on with a brush…oh, my aching arm!  Love to do that ceiling too…maybe, later or NOT.

Here’s the other end the room…my side.  I am thinking of painting the bench all white, as well.  Any ideas for the top surface of the bench?  I wonder if I would like a galvanized metal over it?  Might be too slick.

My hope is to use this area to do some of my repurposing and ‘heavy duty’ crafts.  Maybe a little grow light and plants near the window, next Spring.  I purchased that old window (under the bench) for $4 at Habitat, to put in the back of the shed, for more light but now I am hoping this is enough light.  Besides I have a fun idea for the window.

That contraption over by the left window is the chicken door, which will be mounted in the exterior wall so the chickens can get out to their run…..coming soon.

  2. Your decorating sense is outstanding and like I said before, these gals will be the talk of the town if they are not already. I have never thought to paint the insulation, it sure does make a difference to keep it bright. What lucky girls they are.

I cant have chickens, I only wanted 3 like you have....so I am living my dream via yours, chandelier and all.

  3. Leave it to you to brighten up the insulation. Saves a lot of sheetrock, mudding, etc. Can't wait for the next episode in the saga of the chicken mansion.

  4. You know my Motto: "If it moves...salute it... if it don't,,, paint It!" lol!
Hey Karen, how about using floor tiles on yout bench... I bought some red & white tiles (composit) for my Trailer #3 at 35cents each... I already have the mastic to adhere them with... Our fav haunt, Habitate-4-Humanity has lot's of interesting color composit tiles, they even had a couple boxes of the vinyl pre-sticky floor tiles....just a thought.
Hugz & keep on keeping on!

  18. I love your chicken "mansion"! When I was in my 20's, I was lucky enough to acquire 3 roosters that took up residence in my tree. There was a big one, a middle size one and a little one. They had a very strict pecking order and it didin't vary. Every morning they met me on my back porch waiting for their breakfast. It was a lot of fun. Thanks for visiting, I have looked at your blog and enjoyed it, looks like you have a lot of fun!

  24. I don't think I have ever seen a Chicken Mansion before, but now I want one! And I don't even own a chicken (yet). I can't wait to see the whole thing when you are finished. If such a thing as decorating means we are ever truly finished.

    Love your blog!

    XoXo,
    Kristal
